The Jazz Singer - 1555 Words
ââ¬Å"The Jazz Singerâ⬠Before watching ââ¬Å"The Jazz Singerâ⬠, I had no idea of its cultural or historical significance. I learned that it was the first motion picture to have synchronized dialogue and words. It set the precedent for cinematography, live voice recordings, and real-time dialogue. The film was based on a short story written only a few years prior. The story was called ââ¬Å"The Day of Atonementâ⬠and was authored by Samson Raphaelson. The short story was then adapted into an onstage musical in 1925 before finally becoming a full length feature film in 1927. The film follows a young man by the name of Jakie Rabinowitz. He lives with his mother and father in the Jewish ghetto of the lower east side of Manhattan. He is committed to his dream and he is looking for any way out of his current circumstance. Jakie has probably been whipped by his father before but now that Jakie has direction in his life, he takes advantage of the situation by fleeing from home and pursuing his dreams. Part of the appeal of ââ¬Å"The Jazz Singerâ⬠is that it is difficult to see a progressive maturation of Jack Robin. Rather, we see an ambitious, sometimes blind performer whose ââ¬Å"career comes before everythingâ⬠. But then Jack is faced with a crossroads. He is to choose rather or not to finally step into the lime-light he has so longed for. Truthfully, I did not know how Jakie would choose. He had been scorned by his father time and time again and he had dedicated his whole life to jazz singing. But ultimately I was not surprised at the choice Jack made. He did it for his m other. The short stories in the novel Krik? Krak! by Edwidge Danticat demonstrate the struggles that individuals face and how they react to them. The characters in the stories come from all different backgrounds and experiences but they all seem to share the same sense of suffering and pain. Danticat uses the women in the collections to display the struggles and unhappiness that the people of Haiti faced in the 1960ââ¬â¢s. In this case, the decisive shared elements are: ? The IT resourc es of project A. They are both the customers of project B and the participants of project A. The environmental elements, such as management suport and project priority. Conlcusion: While many were supprised that project B team failed on a fairly simple project, the Work Systems Theory explains the phenomenon quite well. The success of a work system does not rely on one single factor. All nine encompassing elements are in eaqually importance. Project B failed due to the lack of support from its customer and the external environmental source. â⬠¢What additional insight did the theory bring to your understanding? According to the theory, all nine elements are necessarily required to analyze and understand a work system regardless the depth of analysis and / or the size of system. The ââ¬Å"Environmentâ⬠, to me, is the most noteworthy element. It points out that success of a work system also depends on the soil in which it is planted. This explains why a successful team earned reputation in many projects might fail completely in a new project. In other words, the historical performance of a project team is not sufficient to determine the future success rate if the environmental factors of past projects are not considered. A work system is either a self-correctional system or a system that desires improvement. When a work system cannot accomplish the desired improvement by itself, a temporary work system, like a project, is created to perform the amelioration. The desirability of improvement not only is generated from the involvement of participants (human being), but also is the reason why participants are necessarily required for the system (to complete the improvement). The Work System Life Cycle Model illustrates the iterative evolvement of a work system (Figure 3 below), which shows the dynamic iteration of improvement. Those unanticipated driving forces are so true to the nature of any real business. Though all contemporary entrepreneurs are standardizing the business operation as well as codifying the contingency plans by predicting all possibilities, manpower is still the most reliable resources to cope with the unexpected situations.
